Sunny Day in Manhattan

I snapped the reference photo for this painting while my husband ducked into a shop to grab a Pepsi to wake up. He sadly doesn't drink coffee. But, if he didn't stop I wouldn't have had time to admire the busy, sunny street. Oil on 12"h x 16"w MDF panel with 1 1/2" cradled pine sides.

Near the Ruins at Ardchattan

Near Oban, Scotland, is an area called Ardchattan. There is a church and an old priory that has a garden and ruins. It is a peaceful place to explore, as there is a farm nearby and wildlife, and very few people. Oil on 16"h x 20"w stretched canvas.

View of Salisbury Crags

During our recent trip to Edinburgh, we stayed near Holyrood Park, so I spent a lot of time photographing, as well as climbing, Arthur's Seat and Salisbury Crags. We were fortunate to have sun and interesting clouds. Oil on 6"h x 8"w stretched linen.

Dawn in Ardchattan, Scotland

When the first ray of sunlight entered the window of the B&B I visited in Ardchattan, Scotland, I looked out the window to see this view. I thought I was the first one awake, but the Sheep were already eating their breakfast at the neighboring farm. Oil on 6"h x 8"w stretched linen.

Along the Lungarno Torrigiani in Florence

This church along the Lungarno Torrigiani in Florence always caught my eye on my morning runs. I thought the light orange of the building was refreshing, sort of like an orange San Pellegrino. Oil on 16"h x 20"w x 1 1/2"d stretched canvas

Rainy Afternoon in the Piazza Navona

When we visited Rome two years ago, my husband and I decided to do as the Romans do and have a drink at an outdoor cafe in the Piazza Navona. It started raining unexpectedly, so we had to prolong our cafe visit with an extra espresso. Oh well!

Sidewalk Cafe in Greenwich Village

On this particularly warm, sunny Friday afternoon in New York City, every sidewalk cafe was busy. My husband and I couldn't pick one to visit, so we had small plates at a few different ones. One couldn't ask for a better way to spend an evening in the city.

Along the Allegheny River II

These two people walking along the Allegheny River in Pittsburgh, PA seem to be the only people who were not at the Steelers game on a cold, Sunday afternoon. Oil on 8"h x 10" stretched linen.

First United Methodist Church of Shadyside

I always thought this church in Shadyside was interesting. I liked the contrast between the warm colors of the stone and roof with the cool colors of the surrounding streets and hills. Oil on 6"h x 8"w stretched linen.

The Andy Warhol Bridge Study

My husband and I spent the night in Pittsburgh for New Year's Eve and were fortunate to wake up to a sunny New Year's Day. We took a walk downtown along the river where I snapped some photos. This is a study of the Andy Warhol Bridge.

View from Piazza Michelangelo

This is a view of the hills surrounding Florence, Italy from Piazza Michelangelo. I know it doesn't look real, but it looked that way in real life. I guess it doesn't look real to me because of the umbrella pine and cypress trees, which are completely different from the trees we have in Pennsylvania. Add a fortress wall and a Tuscan villa, and it looks like a made-up scene. But it isn't made up, it really exists in Italy! SOLD.

View of San Gimignano III

This is a view from one of the many lookouts along the hilltop town of San Gimignano, Italy.

Almost Dusk in Manhattan

I'm not sure where I was when I took the reference photo for this painting, but I loved the contrast between the warm light of the setting sun and the cool concrete. Oil on 18"h x 14"w x 1 1/2" stretched linen. SOLD.

Dexter the Cat

Dexter is my grandmother's cat, and I'm pretty sure he is related to my late cat Oliver, as they have similar appearances and personalities. Gray and white cats are my favorite to paint because the light, shadows and reflections create interesting colors in their fur, and the gray helps you know that those aren't really colors, they're just reflections. Oil on 7"h x 5"w stretched linen.

Along the Via di Belvedere

From the Piazzale Michelangelo in Florence you can see a winding wall going up the opposite hill, surrounded by olive groves. I wondered what was there, so I jogged up the hill one morning. Unfortunately, you can't really see over the high walls into the city or the olive groves, and the tall iron fences are sealed off so you can't see inside. I saw some pretty views of the wall's turrets and cypress trees, however. Oil on 7"h x 5"w stretched linen.
