Dining Room Table with Cat and Books

This is a painting of my cat, Oliver, on my messy dining room table. He isn't sure if he wants to sit down, jump onto the chair or look out the window. Oil on 11" x 14" canvas. For sale at Gallery on 43rd Street, Pittsburgh, PA. SOLD.

Dragon and Sea Monsters

These are some of the statues in the fountains at Versailles. This painting is 12"h x 16"w. I had so much fun painting it that I plan to do a larger one. I've been working on this over the past few weeks, but decided I had to post it today, as it suits the whole preoccupation with doomsday. Oil on canvas panel. SOLD.

Sleepy Winston

This is my mom's cat, Winston. He wants to take a nap, but he realized the antique, child size chair is a bit too small for him. Oil on 8"h x 6"w stretched linen canvas. For sale at Gallery on 43rd Street, Pittsburgh, Pa. SOLD.

Green Pear and Poinsettia

My labeling of the pears is very unscientific. I forgot to take note of the real names at the grocery store, so I just titled them by color. This is one of the two winter paintings I did this year. I was going to refer to them as Christmas paintings, but really they could be displayed all winter. Oil on 8" x 8" x 1 1/2" stretched canvas.

Red Pear and Poinsettia

This is one of the two winter paintings I did this year. I was going to refer to them as Christmas paintings, but really they could be displayed all winter. Oil on 8" x 8" x 1 1/2" stretched canvas.

Honey and Persimmon

Oil on 5"h x 7"w stretched canvas. SOLD.

Fountain at Versailles

I painted this from a photo that my mom took at Versailles, France. We sometimes share photos with each other for a change of subject matter. Oil on 24" x 48" stretched canvas. SOLD.

Reclining Kitten

I named this "Reclining Kitten", but she's almost a year old, so I guess she's more like a teenager. She will always be a kitten to me though. Oil on 6"h x 12"h stretched canvas. SOLD.

Playing by the Shore II

Oil on 6"h x 12"h stretched canvas. Painted from a photo I took at Cape May, New Jersey. SOLD.

Albertina Museum

Oil on 16"h x 12"w canvas board. SOLD.

Brasserie Lipp

After a very busy day sightseeing in Paris, I wanted to do even more sightseeing by visiting one of Ernest Hemingway's old haunts, Brasserie Lipp. We got all dressed up in our finest Paris attire, which caused us to arrive a bit late in the evening. We ended up being one of the last tables occupied, but I once heard that it is customary in Europe to drink coffee or tea after dinner. Even if it isn't, I still like the idea. While I waited for my coffee, I tried to snap a picture of the room, as for once nobody was there to get in my way or to witness my touristy behavior. While the photo snapped, the waiter rounded the corner with my coffee. Oil on 14"h x 18"w stretched canvas. SOLD.

Cafe Sperl

Oil on 16"h X 12" w stretched canvas. SOLD.

Cafe Schwarzenberg

This was the cafe my husband and I visited on our anniversary after we went to the opera in Vienna (quick travel tip: I learned from my Rick Steves book that you can get inexpensive standing room only opera tickets in Vienna, which is what we did. That way you get the opera experience, but if you're like us and don't speak the language, and therefore have no idea what's going on, you can leave early.) At this cafe, I had my first experience with pancake soup. There are thin strips of pancakes in broth, rather than noodles, and it is very good.  Oil on 20"h x 16"w stretched canvas. SOLD.

Cafe Braunerhof

Oil on 12"h x 16" w stretched canvas. This was one of my favorite cafes in Vienna. It seemed to be filled with locals during their lunch break (rather than tourists.) It was also tricky to find, but I persisted, as my agenda during that trip was to visit as many cafes as possible. There, I had my first ever bowl of liver dumpling soup (it was a giant meatball made of liver, and it was very good.) SOLD.

This is one of the main shopping streets on a sunny day in Vienna, Austria. Oil on 40"h x 30"w x 1 1/2" stretched canvas. Commission.

A painting of two happy dogs playing with a Frisbee. Oil on 9"h x 12"w x 1 1/2" stretched canvas. Commission.

Busy

I have been working on a ton of new paintings during the past few months. Many have been finished for a long time, but I hadn't had time to post them until now. That is the reason behind the several new additions today. Most of the ones below are available for sale at www.ugallery.com, but are not live on the site yet. When they are, I will provide links to my page on that site.

Cafe Hawelka at Night

This was my view of Cafe Hawelka in Vienna, Austria the first of the three times we visited. It was a dark, and I think smoky place. Or  maybe my memories are just smoky because it has been a year since I've visited. Oil on 20 x 16 canvas. SOLD.

Getting Along

These are my babies, Oliver and Stella. Unfortunately, the only time they get along is when they are asleep. Stella is usually the instigator, as Oliver is very peaceful. Even in her sleep, you can see that she appears to be kicking him, trying to take over the ottoman. Oil on 12"h x 24"w canvas.

Red Shoes on a Silver Tray

Oil on Panel, 6"h x 8"w. SOLD.

Two Beers

This was my seat at Cafe Hawelka in Vienna, Austria when my husband and I visited last year. My "job" that I created for myself was to visit all of the major cafes in Vienna during our five day stay. On our first night, we visited Cafe Landtmann, Cafe Central and Cafe Hawelka, then went back to Hawelka for breakfast the next day. We went to at least three different cafes each day (some, as in the case of  Hawelka and Cafe Central, more than once.) It was the best trip ever. And my mission was accomplished. I haven't painted many paintings from all the subject matter, as life has been a whirlwind since we returned. But, now that it is almost the anniversary of that trip, I feel the need to capture the cafes. 10"h x 8"w x 3/4"d. SOLD.

Gold and Yellow

Gold cup, yellow sunflower on a gold-rimmed saucer. I basically used the same yellows and oranges to create all of the golds and yellows, but the application sometimes determines what we call it. SOLD.

Lilies

During the past few weeks I've been working on a series of still lifes that I painted from life, rather than from photos.  Oil on canvas panel, 6"h x 8"w. SOLD.

Cigarette Break

A painting of a couple of guys taking a cigarette break in Paris. Even though I don't smoke, I do like the smell of a bit of cigarette smoke. One of the things I first noticed about Paris, which made the personality of the city so distinct, was the smell. It smelled like a combination of old buildings, cologne, wine, food and cigarette smoke, and it seemed as though the smell built upon itself over the years, so now a little of the oldest scent still seems to remain. It is one of my favorite things about the city, and it wouldn't be the same without the tobacco smell.  Oil on Canvas, 16" x 12". SOLD.

Playing by the Shore

In my recent series of beach paintings, I haven't really included many big waves. I liked how this composition captured the ocean and it's interaction with the sand. Oil on 6" x 8" linen panel. SOLD.

Cape May Shore

As in some of my other beach paintings, I obtained this subject matter while taking a beach walk in Cape May, New Jersey. I loved all the flowing umbrellas, and watching all the happy vacationers frolic by the water. Oil on linen panel 6"h x 8"w x 1/8"d. SOLD.

Early Evening at the Beach II

This is another painting of seven o'clock pm at Cape May, NJ. Oil on 6" x 8" linen panel. SOLD.

Early Evening at the Beach

I painted this view of the Cape May beach from a photo that I took during an early evening beach walk. It was the time of day when the beach crowd dwindled and people contemplated getting ready for dinner. As I only had two days at the beach, I wanted to spend as much time in the water as possible, even if it was with my camera, taking photos. Oil on 6" x 8" linen panel. SOLD.
